Last Push for My 2020 PhD from Life In Pieces

I've been following along with Quilting Gail's 2020 PHD

The goal is to finish 12 UFOs, plus finish any quilts you start during the year (other then quilt alongs that won't finish before the end of the year). I'm not going to finish 12 quilts this year and I'm probably not going to finish the one quilt I started that doesn't carry over to next year.  Here's my report card so far this year.

There's one more finish on the list and one more new start.  But Grassy Creek, Bonnie Hunter's ...

A Finish and a Start from Life In Pieces

It's been two weeks since my last design wall post.  Last week was just nuts, I worked on Sunday and had to go in to work early on Monday. There just wasn't the mental bandwidth to do much posting last week. Thankfully I'm off all this week. I'm hoping to get in some good stitching time and catch up on emails and blog reading.

Before the work madness got geared up, the label and binding for 2019 Christmas Mystery Quilt was finished.

Stitching Stuff: Week 45 of 2020 from Life In Pieces

It's been a week with a lot of uncertainty on both the public and private fronts in our house.  So it was a stressful week on a couple of fronts. The family stuff got sorted out yesterday to a good ending. So at least that stress is gone. So it wasn't the best week for stitching.  When it gets really stressful, a good book is a better distraction and spending even just 15 minutes in the sewing room just doesn't appeal.  How did you fare this week in finding both the time and motivation to stitch?

When ...

November One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

It's the 7th, the last day to link up at Elm Street Quilts with my One Monthly Goal for November.

Which project do I pick?  The Christmas Mystery quilt only needs the binding stitched to the back.

It's a small quilt, so it will definitely get finished this month.  That would be an easy goal. Daisy Chain needs the back pieced, dethreading and a good pressing so it can go out for quilting.

I don't mind making the backing, but I always ...

PHD in 2020 Progress from Life In Pieces

Just two months left in 2020.  The end of the year always just flies by it seems.  As it's a new month it's time to take stock of the progress towards my 2020 PHD (projects half done)

The tracking sheet has been updated again this month, but this time in the right direction.

There's another check mark in the finished column. Storm at Sea is finished and has been much appreciated as the new quilt on our bed.

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 11/03/2020 from Life In Pieces

We are heading out earlier than normal today to get to our polling location when it opens. Even in our small community turn out was high for early voting, so we expect long waits even when the polls first open.

So I'll need to speed write this week's to do list.  Before I write the new list, I should look at how it went with the previous To Do List.

Weekly To Do List for 10/27/2020

  • Frolic: Prep quilt for quilting and mail

  • Christmas Mystery: Trim quilt, make label and binding

  • Red, White & Blue Stars: Continue ...

Pieces of Progress from Life In Pieces

Can you believe it's November?  It didn't really hit me till I had to create a new file folder this morning for yesterday's sewing room photos.  Just a little over three weeks to Thanksgiving! I'm not thinking about it. As much as I'd like to get 2020 over with, I'm still hoping to get a few more projects off the UFO list before we get to 2021. There was good progress on that goal this weekend.

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 10/27/2020 from Life In Pieces

Just a few days left in October. November will definitely be underway when we make out next week's list. But I should focus on the here and now to come up with this week's list. Before doing that, I should take a quick detour to look at the progress on last week's to do list.

Weekly To Do List for 10/20/2020

  • Frolic: Prep for quilting and mail - progress
  • Red, White & Blue Stars: finish sashing the blocks
  • Morewood Mystery: Continue to make October's blocks
  • Unity: Make more HSTS and blocks for clue 4
It wasn ...

Stitching Along from Life In Pieces

I was definitely ready for Saturday to get here.  The plan is for a nothing but stitching day to celebrate the end of the work week and the beginning of October.  Just three months left in 2020. Though I will be glad to see the end of this year, there's not much time left to finish my 2020 PHD.

There is an update to my tracking spreadsheet, but it's not a new check mark in the finished column.

The Morewood Mystery quilt September clue had me cutting into the fabric to make last months blocks.  I count a ...

To Do Tuesday for 09/22/2020 from Life In Pieces

The weeks continue to just fly by.  It will be October in just over a week.  Definitely time to get moving on any stitching goals that are still hanging out there. I've never been much of a list maker, other than the grocery list.  But there's a good deal of research that shows making a good list can really help with productivity. The weekly list seems to be helping me on that front. All of last week's to do's are all checked off.

Just Odds and Ends Sewing from Life In Pieces

There was good progress this week, but it's the kind of progress that's not very photogenic.  For example, the payment for quilting on Storm at Sea got mailed last week, so I should see it back here ready to trim and bind by the end of the week.  Along the same lines, I finished the final pressing and clean up of the 2019 Christmas Mystery Quilt.

The top is now all folded up and boxed up for shipment to Trudy for quilting.  Not exciting photographically, but it's ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 9/15/2020 from Life In Pieces

It seems that all I did was blink and it's already the middle of September. The year always seems to speed up as it goes along.  Even though it seems like last week passed at warp speed, the To Do List got done.

Weekly To Do List for 09/08/2020

  • Frolic: Piece backing
  • Morewood Mystery: Continue making clue 3 blocks
  • Unity: Continue making HSTs and clue 4 blocks
  • 2019 Christmas Mystery: Prep back for quilting

After almost a year of making To Do Lists, I've learned that for some projects the goal is to just keep it ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 09/08/2020 from Life In Pieces

Hope everyone in the US had a good holiday weekend.  I took Friday off, so it's that much harder to head back to work this morning. We took it slow this weekend. The Scientist in Training has a pretty hard semester this fall, so she slept a lot and then had homework.  This is her only break till Thanksgiving. The school moved Fall Break to the week of Thanksgiving, so she has that whole week off. That seems so far off but it will be here before you know it.

Having a four day weekend helped with getting through ...

Momentum from Life In Pieces

What a week!  I'll be glad to see the end of this one.  My Guy is finally feeling much better and thankfully his test came back negative. Thank you for all the moral support and crossed fingers. I'm really looking forward to the holiday weekend. A few days off work will be nice. After this week, a sewing only day is definitely in the cards.  I should decide on my September One Monthly Goal before then.

Next up on the 2020 Quilt plan is Daisy Chain.

Backs and Borders Part II from Life In Pieces

The weekend was a bit of a mixed bag.  We got to see the Scientist in Training on Friday, but then My Guy got to feeling bad on Saturday.  So we spend a quiet day at home on Sunday. He's still not feeling great and has a fever. With the current guidelines at work, he has to see the doctor and I have to work from home till he's cleared.

It was a pretty good weekend in the sewing room.  I finished my August One Monthly Goal.

Storm at Sea was cleaned up, boxed up and shipped out ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 8/25/2020 from Life In Pieces

I'm not sure what happened to the last week.  It's already Tuesday again and time for a new to do list.  Except there isn't much new on this week's list as I didn't finish much from last week's list.

  • Storm at Sea: Finish prepping quilt top for quilting
  • Christmas Mystery: Make backing - progress
  • Daisy Chain: Decide on borders
  • Unity: Finish Step 3, make HSTs for step 4 - progress
I did finish getting Storm at Sea cleaned up and pressed.  That pretty much dominated last week's sewing time.  Which is why there aren't ...

Random Stitchy Stuff from Life In Pieces

The weather has been beautiful.  Typically we've had a couple of weeks of scorching hot days by this time.   But that didn't happen this year. It's also been a lot wetter than normal, everything is still green. Normally the fields and yards are mostly brown by this point in the summer.  There is a downside to all this lovely weather, the allergens are a lot higher than normal. So my sinuses haven't been happy.  Thankfully I'm not miserable, I'm just not operating at 100%.

In spite of the the allergy issues, I did get ...

To Do Tuesday for Week of 8/18/2020 from Life In Pieces

Hard to believe that August is more than half over.  I'm not sure where the last week went.  I did get in quite a bit of stitching time, though I didn't finish last week's To Do List.

Weekly To Do List (8/11/2020)

  • Storm at Sea: Prep top for quilting - progress
  • Frolic:  Finish borders
  • Unity: Finish step 3, start step 4 - progress

Only one to do checked off the list for the last week.  That's a pretty big check mark as it means another quilt top is finished. There was good progress on the other ...

Status of My One Word Challenge for 2020: Finish from Life In Pieces

After almost 20 years of cutting up perfectly good fabric into little pieces and sewing them back together into quilts, I still love doing it. At the end of last year though, my UFO list was eating at me.  I love every quilt on that list, there's not any I don't want to finish. But I am struggling to get quilts off the list.  So for 2020, I decided to give the one word challenge a try. The word you pick is supposed to remind you of what you want to achieve during the year so as you ...

Christmas in August from Life In Pieces

In these days of social distancing, weekends have become pretty predictable.  The Scientist in Training has been home most weekends, it's the only human contact she gets.  It's been a pretty lonely summer for her. We've tackled a few home improvement projects. My Guy redid the dryer vent as we discovered mice were getting into the house that way (no mice since, so that worked).

I took Saturday as a nothing but play on the computer and in the sewing room day.  There was a good bit of sewing, but there was also a good bit of ...
